Uniform and dress requirements

A number of courses involve attending clinical placements where a uniform is required.

Uniform provision

An initial set of uniforms will be provided without charge. However, if any additional uniforms are required throughout the course, this will need to be sourced and paid for by the student.

Infection prevention and control

You should clean your uniform before each shift to comply with infection prevention and control. It is important that students remain bare below the elbow in clinical placements to comply with infection prevention and control, which protects patient safety. Adjustments can be made on religious grounds (if agreed by the University and placement area).

Requirements in placement settings

Courses in speech and language therapy and audiology require the face to be visible for therapeutic reasons when in practice placement and some university-based activities.

Students who work in a clinical setting but are not required to wear a uniform should avoid revealing or impractical clothing which may pose a hygiene or safety risk (for example, dangling clothing).

There may be specific expectations related to dress code for students not required to wear uniform, dependent on the particular setting and/or community with whom students are placed.
