Occupational health clearance
All offers to study on a regulated health or social care course are subject to clearance from Occupational Health.
This process helps us to ensure that all students are fit to train and to assess if reasonable adjustments are required to support individual student needs.
Health questionnaire
You will be required to complete a health questionnaire that covers both physical and mental health. Most potential students are cleared following review of their health questionnaire. Some students may require additional assessments to explore their health and functional capacity.
Please note that dishonesty is incompatible with training in a regulated profession, and may lead to you being removed from the course. Please ensure that you answer all questions truthfully.
Immunisations and blood screening
As a student of a regulated health or social care profession, you will work closely with vulnerable members of the public. You may require vaccinations and to undergo blood screening, specific to your course, before any practice placement as part of your occupational health clearance.
You will be asked to provide evidence of vaccination or immunity for the following:
- Completion of Hepatitis B vaccine programme (where indicated) OR evidence of immunity
- Evidence of 2 varicella (Chickenpox) vaccines OR evidence of immunity to varicella
- TB screening
- Exposure Prone Procedure (EPP) screening (where required)
- Evidence of 2 MMR vaccines OR evidence of immunity
You can find this information in your 'Red Book' or through your GP.
Some courses will not allow you to start your practice placement without a certificate of fitness for practice placement. Not all health or social care courses require all the above. Occupational Health will make you aware if you require further vaccination or screening.
