Undergraduate summer placements

Each year, we offer undergraduate students from across the UK the opportunity to undertake a research experience placement at The University of Manchester, funded through the BBSRC DTP.

Placements will last for up to six weeks and a salary will be provided at the living wage rate (currently £9.20 per hour). A list of projects for 2020 will be available from January.

Please complete the application form below and send this, together with your CV and a transcript of your marks so far, to abbie.roberts@manchester.ac.uk by Friday 20 March 2020.

We also have MRC DTP undergraduate summer placements which you may be interested in.

Please note you can only apply to ONE of these placement schemes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a placement, you should:

  • be in the middle years of your first degree;
  • be registered for a basic science (including mathematics and engineering) or veterinary degree at a UK university;
  • have Home/EU status;
  • be expected to obtain a First or Upper Second class honours degree.

Preference will be given to students who wish to use the placement to find out more about their suitability and aptitude for further research, particularly if the project is in an area of science different from their main subject area.

Please note that medical students and international students are not eligible for this scheme.
