Welcome to postgraduate offer holders
Congratulations on becoming an offer holder. We look forward to welcoming you to the MSc in Precision Medicine at The University of Manchester.
From our students
"This course is an excellent bridge for students switching their undergraduate focus before a PhD." (Heyang Du)
"I am now pursuing a PhD at the University of Munich, focusing on acute leukaemia research using PDX models to advance preclinical studies." (Dhruv Mehra)
"I have been awarded a clinical research PhD fellowship by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation to continue the research I started during my MSc. I believe the MSc really helped me build a strong application for the fellowship." (Roya Behrouzi)
Former student Jamie talks about his experience on the course and how he was lucky enough to publish his findings (1 minute read).
Reading list
To help you hit the ground running, we've put together a reading list covering the key areas of the course: genetics and genomics, proteomics and metabolomics, research methods and laboratory skills.
We'd recommend starting with these two short papers that set the scene for the whole programme:
- Why precision medicine matters now (Collins & Varmus, 2015)
- From genomes to healthcare (Stark et al, 2019)
Some journal articles may not be accessible until you have registered at the University.
Our research
Our academics are developing new ways to detect disease earlier and tailor treatment.
Proteomics and metabolomics unit lead Dr Drupad Trivedi helped develop a non-invasive skin swab test that can identify biomarkers for Parkinson's disease years before symptoms appear.
MSc research project supervisor Professor Andrew Doig led the development of a novel blood test that identifies biomarkers in patients with Alzheimer's disease.
Tutor and project supervisor Prof William Newman has published on embedding pharmacogenetics into clinical practice to improve patient outcomes.
