Course description
This degree is a unique partnership in dental education and is delivered to the same specification, quality and standard as the undergraduate dental degree at The University of Manchester.
The course follows the credit hours system. To graduate, you must complete 181 credit hours over ten semesters (in five academic years). Each academic year consists of 15 weeks (spread over two semesters).
The first semester begins in September and the second in spring. On average, you can register 16-18 credits per semester.
Course delivery
You will be registered with both universities and have access to the resources of each. For example, you will attend all core courses at Alexandria University, but will also have access to the extensive electronic library at Manchester.
Application and selection
Entry requirements
You need to meet the existing Egyptian National Entry requirements to study Dentistry at the University of Alexandria and then be further selected through interview. Although the admissions criteria for BDS at the University of Alexandria and The University of Manchester are not the same, you still need to demonstrate equivalence in academic ability and non-academic qualities.
English language requirements
Your English Language ability must be sufficient for you to be able to learn and practice Dentistry in English. Minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with 6.5 in each component; IGCSE/O-Level English at Grade B or above; US High School Diploma will be considered in combination with SAT/ACT results or if the candidate also sits the BMAT; a minimum GPA of 3.5 (with English and maths offered in Year 12) is expected.

You will apply to the course using the Alexandria Faculty of Dentistry’s central admissions system via the joint award admissions website. Successful students will be selected jointly by both universities.

Selection process
Potential candidates will be interviewed using The University of Manchester’s existing methods, and interviews with the relevant Alexandria staff will take place at the Alexandria Faculty of Dentistry. University of Manchester colleagues may also be in attendance, if required.
Registration
After you accept your offer, you can register online at The University of Manchester, after which you officially become a student.
You will receive a Manchester student ID and email address, allowing access to e-learning resources at the extensive Manchester university library.
You will be admitted to the course after being nominated cards from Tansik. See further information for Egyptian students on the Tansik website and for international students on the Wafeden website.
Tuition fees
The annual international tuition fee is $15,000. It can be paid once or in instalments: $9,525 in September and $5,475 in the following January.
Fee payments
Accepted students will be expected to register and pay their fees to both The University of Manchester and Alexandria University within the two-week registration period at the start of the academic year.
