Intercalated BDS degrees

Intercalated degrees are a chance for dental students to enhance their degree by studying another subject for one year between Years 2 and 3.

These degrees offer the opportunity to study either a subject already covered in part by the BDS dentistry course or a new area in which they may be particularly interested in greater depth. You will complete the final year of a BSc Honours degree at Manchester.

Degrees offered

You can choose from BSc courses in a range of relevant bioscience and humanities subjects allied to healthcare programmes.

A number of topics can be studied in depth during this year, with most courses having a significant research component based on either laboratory work or a literature review.

Funding

If you pay your own tuition fees, you will be expected to continue to do so for the intercalated year.

However, students whose Local Education Authority (LEA) pays their fees will need to liaise with their LEA directly regarding funding for the extra year.

Interested candidates should make enquiries through their Academic Year Leads during Year 2 of the BDS course.

The opportunity to undertake the BSc (Hons) depends on outstanding academic performance during Years 1 and 2 of the BDS course, as well as the availability of academic staff in the subject area and the total number of applicants.
