Facilities

Our optometry and ophthalmology students benefit from a range of facilities for study and practical work.

Our optometry clinics and labs are located in a facility at the heart of the biomedical section of Manchester's main campus.

More than £4 million has been spent on refurbishing the Carys Bannister Building, where facilities include custom-designed optometric examination rooms, as well as specialist low vision, binocular vision and clinical investigative techniques.

We have strong links with neighbouring Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and undergraduate optometry students get the opportunity to spend one week full-time at the hospital, gaining a wealth of practical clinical experience in all hospital departments. This is a unique element of our degree courses not offered at any other UK university.

We also offer facilities for contact lens and paediatric optometry education, along with dedicated teaching laboratories for optics and vision science.
