Interview day structure

Interviews for both home and overseas applicants will take place either in person or via the online Zoom platform.

All applicants will have booked in for their interview slot via Gecko. Please check your Gecko ticket to ensure that you attend the correct interview date and time slot. A reminder will be sent seven days before your interview, when you will no longer be able to change your interview time.

There are a number of different sessions each day, and the approximate schedule is as follows:

Cycle 1Cycle 2Cycle 3Cycle 4Cycle 5Schedule

On-campus interviews

In-person interviews are being conducted in two different locations. The location of your interview will be listed on your confirmation email. If you have not received this confirmation, please contact us as soon as possible.

On the day, you will be met and taken to a briefing room prior to your interview. If you're running late, please email us on ug.medicine@manchester.ac.uk with the subject line 'MMI Interview' and the given date for your interview, so it can be picked up as a matter of importance by the admissions team.

All applicants must attend the briefing session, where the admissions team will explain how the on-campus interview will work and how your identification documents will be checked.

Online interviews

If your interview is online, you will be sent the relevant Zoom links for your session the working day before the interview. It is vital that:

  • the email address on your UCAS form is up-to-date and correct;
  • you check your emails the night before your interview.

Please log in to your Zoom session promptly at your designated arrival time. Due to the nature of the multiple mini-interviews, it may not be possible to accommodate latecomers.

If you're running late, or are experiencing technical problems, please email us on ug.medicine@manchester.ac.uk with the subject line 'MMI Interview' and the given date for your interview, so it can be picked up as a matter of importance by the admissions team.

All applicants must attend the briefing session, where the admissions team will explain how the online interview will work and how your identification documents will be checked. You must remain at your desk until your interview concludes.

Requirements for the online interview

The MMI will be delivered via Zoom, an online and free-to-access teleconference platform. You should ensure that you have the latest version of Zoom downloaded to your device.

You will also need to check that you meet the following requirements.

Device requirements

You should have a fully charged or plugged in electronic device. This should be either a computer, laptop or tablet/iPad.

You should not attempt to sit the MMI using your mobile phone. Your device needs to have audio and video functionality.

Internet connection

You need to have access to a reliable internet connection. If you have the option, a wired (ethernet) connection is preferable to wi-fi.

Your environment

You are required to sit the MMI stations in a room on your own. You are responsible for finding a room that is quiet and conducive to assessment, where standard interview conditions can be maintained.

No extra time will be granted to compensate for interruptions and disturbances within your local environment.

If we feel that there is someone else in the room with you, we may ask you to pan your camera around so we can check. If we feel that you may have been conferring with someone, this will be treated as a professionalism issue and will hinder any potential offer being made after your interview.

We recognise that not all applicants will have a quiet and private home environment where they can conduct their interview. If you feel this is the case, we encourage you to speak to your school/college to try to arrange the possibility of sitting the interview in that environment.

If you have any further questions about this, please contact the Admissions team on ug.medicine@manchester.ac.uk.

Zoom settings

When setting up your Zoom, please set the name to state your full name, so that as you are moving around the stations, the interviewers in your cycle will be able to match you up to the list.

You can amend your display name through the settings on your Zoom account. Don't worry if you are unable to do this prior to the interview session. Our student ambassadors will be on hand to talk you through how to do this.

Recording and contact with other applicants

You must not record the interview session. You must not contact any other applicant in your interview session.

Where it has come to our attention that an applicant has recorded their interview stations or the session at large, or has contacted another applicant during the session, we reserve the right to rescind any potential offer made after the interview.

When the interview has finished, you must not share the station content or interview questions with other people.
