Andy Brass
Head of the School of Health Sciences
Andy took up the role of Head of School in August 2022.
A Professor of Bioinformatics, Andy was previously Head of the Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Sciences within the School.
After completing his PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 1987, Andy was awarded a NATO fellowship at McMaster University in Canada where he studied aspects of high-temperature superconductivity.
He joined The University of Manchester in 1990 and became a founding member of the bioinformatics group. Within the group, he has undertaken a wide range of projects ranging from food security in East Africa to the application of clinical bioinformatics in healthcare. Education and capacity building has always been a strong interest.
