Supportive and Palliative Care research group
We undertake internationally excellent research to improve the quality of life and physical and psychological wellbeing of and support for patients and family carers within supportive and palliative care (including cancer and non-malignant disease).
We do this particularly in relation to:
- enabling patients to be supported at home in the final stages of life;
- timely and equitable access to palliative care and treatment of life threatening diseases, including cancer;
- self-management of symptoms and maintenance of psychological and physical wellbeing.
We work closely with patients, carers, healthcare professionals to achieve these aims.
Collaborations
The group has close links with NHS providers and hospices nationally and locally, and with other researchers within The University of Manchester.
We work closely with local NHS partners and the Manchester Business School as part of the Greater Manchester Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research (CLAHRC).
Research themes
The interests of the group focus on the following main themes:
- complex symptoms, aftercare and survivorship;
- palliative home care;
- methodology.
