A postgraduate research degree from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health will open the door to a world of opportunity after graduation.

Our graduate programme helps you develop a range of professional skills alongside your core research training. This will be invaluable in helping you advance your career.

Types of role

Many of our students go on to take up postdoctoral positions both at Manchester and other leading universities in the UK, as well as overseas.

Some graduates move on to positions in industry, undertaking a variety of roles for organisations such as AstraZeneca, Novartis, Boehringer-Ingelheim and GSK.

International students often return to their home country to take up positions in their government or universities.

Additional support

We keep in contact with our past students through a dedicated alumni office which offers various opportunities to build your professional networks.

The University has a careers service that specialises in helping doctoral researchers with their careers.

"Obtaining a PhD is a proof of tenacity and requires much continuous analysis. During the three years I took, there were certainly more days where things did not go as expected than days when all ran smoothly. It is a continuous game at trying to find new paths to solve encountered issues."
