Nursing, midwifery and social work

Further your career in health care at a University ranked 3rd in the world for nursing (QS World Rankings 2019).

Taught master’s in nursing, midwifery and social work

We are a recognised international leader in education for nurses, midwives, allied health professionals and social work professionals. We provide a range of high quality pre- and post-registration courses.

Our courses enable you to study at postgraduate level, enhancing your practice by acquiring, developing and critically appraising your knowledge and skills.

These include specific courses for continuing professional development (CPD), many of which can enable you to earn credits to put towards a full postgraduate qualification.

Prepare for leadership

Our Advanced Leadership for Professional Practice courses are aimed at nurses, social workers and allied healthcare professionals who want to take the next step in their professional development.

Through our coherent programme of professionally relevant study, you will learn contemporary knowledge and skills in the areas of clinical practice, as well as leadership and collaborative practice.

Other key areas include improving quality, developing practice, and developing self and others.

I'm already applying a lot of the skills that I'm learning, especially in the Developing Practice and Managing Change unit. Because my team at work knows that I am doing this unit, they give me a lot more responsibility and I can see the ways in which it's going to help me progress in my career already.

Rachel Hunter / MSc Advanced Leadership for Professional Practice (Nursing)

Develop your research skills

Our research-focused master's courses are ideal for roles that involve research in clinical and health and social care settings. Many of our other courses also offer research-specific units to help you develop this skillset alongside units in another area of interest.

You'll also benefit from studying in a research-intensive environment. Our nursing and allied health professions research was deemed excellent in the REF 2014, and researchers are among the teaching staff on our postgraduate courses. "I have received the right amount of support from both the course facilitators who have been contactable and helpful throughout my modules, and also a lot of support from fellow students."

Qualify as a social worker

Our MA in Social Work will give you a nationally and internationally recognised professional social work qualification, and eligibility to register as a qualified social worker with the Health and Care Professions Council.

"The interventions module was really useful when hypothesising on what kind of support might suit certain people and applying solution-focused brief therapy to each case, as well promoting approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy."

Eric Boateng / MA Social Work
