BSc Nursing Practice (CPD)

You may undertake this course unit as part of your degree pathway, or you may undertake the unit as a ‘stand alone’ course unit.

• Demonstrate a systematic understanding of the normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology of the eye, adnexa and the physiology of vision
• Make judgements using detailed knowledge of the macro assessment of a patient’s anterior eye and adnexa
• Critically examine key aspects of life experiences of the visually impaired person and also low visual aids
• Establish a conceptual understanding and knowledge of the physical, psychological, sociological and economic issues experienced by a person with visual impairment
• Analyse and have a critical understanding of eye health
• Establish a critical understanding of ophthalmic pharmacology

• Develop a critical understanding of the evidence base underpinning ophthalmic patient care
• Be an independent learner and possess an analytical approach to self-directed learning

• Use reflection on action to inform decision making skills in ophthalmic patient care
• Establish a critical approach to clearly communicate knowledge to a range of audiences including, patients, carers and the multidisciplinary team

Students will normally have the opportunity to receive feedback on formative work submitted prior to the summative assessment. Other feedback opportunities will also be available in class and online discussion boards. Online feedback is provided in Grademark. Provisional feedback based on internal marking will be made available prior to the Exam Board on the basis that these marks are yet to be ratified at the Exam Board and therefore may be subject to change. A standard feedback mechanism in Grademark is utilised across all postgraduate programmes within the School which provides detailed and constructive feedback on each component and aspect of assessment and identifies areas of strength and those aspects which could be enhanced.

Student feedback is obtained through open discussion forums on blackboard, in class discussions, via formal University unit evaluation forms and also qualitative, in house evaluations at the end of the unit.
