Wellcome Clinical PhD Scheme
The Universities of Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield have come together to set up the 4ward North Clinical PhD Academy. This Wellcome Clinical PhD Scheme in Northern England brings exciting research opportunities to the brightest clinical trainees.
We have five clinical PhD places to offer per year. The programme is split into two stages, the first of which involves the selection of around 20 aspiring clinical academics to participate in a lead-in phase when you remain in your current post. Your normal clinical training will continue.
This group of 20 will work with leading researchers from our pool of supervisors across the four institutions to put together a Stage 2 application for one of the five PhD places that will commence in August-October each year.
Our pool of supervisors is drawn from our four institutions and offers a wide spectrum of possible PhD projects. You can find out about the possible PhD projects within our Wellcome PhD supervisor booklet.
The Stage 1 call for applications for the 2016/17 cohort is now closed.
