Nursing, midwifery and social work research
We have a worldwide reputation for high-quality research in nursing, midwifery and social work, with extensive national and international collaborations with a wide range of partners.
In the Research Excellence Framework 2014, we retained our premier position as part of the Unit of Assessment 3 (Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy). 81.3% of our outputs, 100% of our impact, and 100% of our environment were deemed internationally excellent or world-leading, and we were ranked top in the country for this unit by research power.
Our research is motivated by the aim of improving health and social care for users of health and social care services and the wider population at local, national and international levels, ensuring people will be able to live healthier, better lives as the 21st century progresses.
We aim to continue to be a world leader in multidisciplinary research that improves health and social care. We are committed to nurturing research, from the first exposure our students receive on our undergraduate courses to our master's and PhD programmes and beyond.
We place particular emphasis on developing postdoctoral researchers into the leaders of tomorrow and provide a vibrant and supportive environment for all research staff to develop their careers.
Our multidisciplinary research approach is focused on a number of particular areas of strength, and these are reflected in our postgraduate research programmes.
