Research Domain Director, Evolution, Systems and Genomics
Professor James McInerney was appointed as Research Domain Director for Evolution, Systems and Genomics in August 2016.
He was previously Chair in Evolutionary Biology at the Faculty of Life Sciences at Manchester.
Professor McInerney studied for his BSc and PhD at University College Galway from 1987 until 1994. Subsequently, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the National Diagnostics Centre in Galway and in the Department of Zoology at The Natural History Museum, London.
In 1999, he set up the bioinformatics research group at NUI Maynooth and became the director of the Genetics and Bioinformatics degree course. For the 2012/13 academic year, he took a sabbatical at the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at Harvard University, USA.
In 2015, Professor McInerney moved his research to The University of Manchester.
